Scholastic Reading Program

This is to enhance the reading comprehension of the students in grades 1-7.  There are available books in our library for all grade levels.  There is also an updated list at Newberry County Library.  Our tests consists of almost 2000 quizzes ranging from first to seventh grade reading levels.  Encourage your child to participate.

Governor's Reading Honor Roll

The requirements of this program is for your child to read at least 20 books over the course of the year.  You should keep up with this in a reading log through out the year and in April, you will be asked to turn that list in to the librarian.

Up the Learning Tree by Marcia K. Vaughn

The picture book award is for first and second grade.  Second graders must read at least 3 of the selected books and pass a test on them and the first graders must read at least 3 of the selected books and have their parents send in a note saying that they completed this.

The children's book award is for third through sixth graders.  Their requirements are to read 3 of the selected books and pass a Scholastic Reading Test.

This program will begin again in the fall and run to mid-February.

Library Awards Program

All of these programs are recognized at a Library Awards Program during school hours in May.  Remembering that reading is extremely important towards your child's education, please encourage 15 to 30 minutes of reading daily.

 

Book Fairs

September and February

 

The library programs are assisted by the book fairs.  They are usually scheduled in September and February.  Come join the excitement generated by the book fairs at school.  Prizes are given to the students by drawings almost daily.  Look for the next scheduled fair.
