Student Achievement Newberry
Academy utilizes the Stanford Achievement Test for measuring student
achievement. Stanford scores are compared nationally, whereas public
schools in South Carolina use the PACT, which only compares students'
scores across our state. Newberry Academy feels that parents and
students receive a clearer understanding of a students achievement on a
national level.
* Over the last three years students in grades
1-8 have an average ranking of the 78th percentile on the Stanford.
* 40% of 1-8 graders scored in the TOP 20% on
the Stanford in 2002.
* 92% of 1-8 graders scored above the 50th
percentile on the Stanford in 2002.
* 48% of the 2001-2002 6th grade class qualified
to take the SAT in the Duke University Talent Identification Program.
* 30% of 9th and 10th graders scored in the top
10% on the National Education Development Test in 2002.
* 44% of Newberry Academy graduates have
qualified for the Life Scholarship since the program's inception.
NEWBERRY ACADEMY GRADUATES
* 90% of our graduates choose to further their
education at technical colleges or 4 year colleges and universities,
with approximately 75% choosing 4-year institutions.
* 71% have attended a four-year college or university (109 of 153)
* 22% have attended a two year or technical school (34 of 153)
* 7% have not furthered their education (10 of 153)
* Of the 71% that have entered four-year schools, 77% are either
still enrolled or have graduated
* 63 of the 109 choosing four-year institutions have attended one
of the six school ranked at the top in South Carolina based on average
SAT scores of the incoming freshman classes.
* Those results are as follows: 28 to USC - 11 graduates, 14
still enrolled, 3 did not finish 21 to Clemson - 14 graduates, 4 still
enrolled, 3 did not finish 5 to Presbyterian - 4 still enrolled ( all
on the Dean's list), 1 did not finish 3 to Furman - 2 graduated with
honors, 1 still enrolled ( on Dean's list) 3 to Wofford - 3 graduated,
2 with honors 3 to College of Charleston - 1 graduated, 1 transferred
to Clemson and graduated, 1 still enrolled
* Of these 63 Newberry Academy graduates, 56 have either
graduated or are currently enrolled in college. That is 88% that are
succeeding. Also, many of the students attending USC and Clemson have
made the Dean's List or graduated with honors.
* These statistics are the results of the efforts made from
three-year preschool through grade twelve, and from the support and
encouragement received at home.
