Junior Civitan

The Newberry Academy Junior Civitan Club was chartered on February 28, 1985, as a co-ed organization open to students in grades 7–12. Junior Civitan is a service-based program designed to develop citizenship, initiative, and leadership, encouraging students to live a life enriched by unselfish service and a commitment to improving their communities. The organization promotes four areas of service: Collection Selection, Environmental Awareness, Social Causes, and Community Engagement.
Although Newberry Academy is a small school, the Junior Civitan Club has consistently been an active and involved presence within both the school and the local community. Prior to 2020, the club was highly engaged at the district level, participating in service projects and meetings throughout the South Carolina District. During this time, five Newberry Academy members served as District Governor, and numerous others held positions on the District Board.

In 2020, Junior Civitan International reorganized its districts, merging South Carolina with Georgia and Florida to form Region 3. While the club is no longer active at the regional level due to distance and the absence of regional events, it continues to thrive locally. Current projects planned by the officers include providing breakfast for faculty during in-service, welcoming first graders with pencil presentations, hosting a school-wide food drive, and assembling ten laundry baskets of essential items for adults through DSS.
